John Meyer was awarded the Adele De Berri Pioneers of AV Award at InfoComm 2014 in Las Vegas. Since founding Meyer Sound in 1979, Meyer has led an engineering team that has advanced sound reinforcement through the design, manufacture, and use of linear loudspeakers.
While many of Meyer’s innovations appeared radical at first, many of his ideas have become industry norms. This includes Meyer Sound’s self-powered loudspeakers, a breakthrough for the company when first introduced in the 1990s. Meyer also pioneered the development of dedicated electronic processing to optimize loudspeaker performance.
In 1999, Meyer Sound introduced the PSW-6 high-power cardioid subwoofer, which used a unique six-woofer enclosure (four front/two rear) and sophisticated phase-manipulation circuitry to achieve a cardioid directional pattern, delivering more bass energy to the audience and less unwanted LF reverb in the room and on stage. Most recently, Meyer Sound has introduced the Constellation acoustic system, widely regarded as the most sophisticated and refined approach to electroacoustic architecture.

A guitarist and vocalist, Polino is a 23-year veteran of the Boston music scene playing in popular Top 40, GB and Function bands such as “Dick n Jane” and “Hot Mess,” both of who have won “Best Band” awards from local radio stations. John comes to Fishman from First Act Inc., where he spent the last six years as a Warehouse Manager, Sales Sample Coordinator, Consumer Relations Manager and Product Manager.
Gary Lopez is a New England based vocalist/guitarist who’s been performing professionally since he was 17 and established himself in the Northeast as the front man for New Hampshire’s popular The Baker Street Band. Gary has shared the stage with Gregg Allman and The English Beat, and performed in shows for President Bill Clinton. He has also been involved with music industry retail sales for over two decades working with Daddy’s Junky Music and Cambridge Soundworks.

BATTERSEA, UK – Battersea Power Station Development Company on behalf of its shareholders, SP Setia, Sime Darby and Employees Provident Fund hosted a concert by Sir Elton John to thank everyone who is helping to make the development of the iconic Power Station a reality.
The event featured a lighting design by Patrick Woodroffe, with Robe moving lights on the rig and equipment supplied by west London based Colour Sound Experiment.
Fifteen LEDWash 300s were joined by 6 x LEDWash 600s and 12 x LEDWash 1200s, eight Pointes and eight MMX Spots … all from Robe’s ROBIN series.
A glittering array of celebrities turned out in force to attend where they and a capacity audience of 2500 were treated to a rousing 90 minute set of Elton’s classics.
As well as Patrick Woodroffe being Elton’s long term Lighting Designer, his company Woodroffe Bassett Design is acting lighting consultant for the entire Battersea Power Station development project, where their brief involves ensuring that there is continuity across the lighting of all architectural and environmental elements.
The Elton John gig was project managed for Woodroffe Bassett by Terry Cook, who was also the Associate LD, and for Colour Sound by Steve Marley
It took place in a 60 metre long by 30 metre wide clear-span tent installed inside the heart of the Power Station – currently the shell between the four famous 103 metre high chimneys, so the magnificent industrial architecture which was especially lit for the occasion, could be enjoyed by all.
Inside the tent there was a performance stage, and this is where the Robes were installed – on a ground supported rear truss, a flown front truss and a flown spine truss running down the centre of the tent.
The LEDWash 300s and the MMX Spots were on the back truss utilised for wash and beam functionality. The LEDWash 600s were rigged on the ground supported trussing PA wings, giving a handy side lighting position, and the LEDWash 1200s and Pointes were on the floor.
These were programmed under Patrick’s direction to produce a spectacular show by Sir Elton John’s regular Lighting Director Andy Pygott using a grandMA console which was supplied by Neg Earth.
The lighting equipment illuminating the building exterior was supplied by PRG and the stunning projections onto the front of the Power Station were created by Drive Productions.
Pygott also recently used Robe Pointes for the first time during an Elton John Latin American tour.
Colour Sound is one of the UK’s top lighting and visuals rental companies and have invested heavily in Robe for their hire stock. Their most recent purchases this spring included nearly 100 new Robe fixtures for a slightly crazy upcoming summer season including 60 of the hugely popular multi-purpose Robe ROBIN Pointes!

ANDOVER, U.K. — John Wilson, longtime chairman and president of the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), held annually each September at Amsterdam’s RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, died April 28 at age 82. A memorial service is set for June 25 at All Saints Church in Upper Clatford, U.K., near here.
Dubbed the “architect” of the IBC as it exists today, Wilson is credited with his soft-spoken but determined efforts to develop the annual event, starting in the early 1990s. Among other accomplishments, he played a key role in partnering with six other organizations — IABM, IEEE, IET, RTS, SCTE and SMPTE — and in leading a professional management team to organize the first IBC in Amsterdam in 1992, where the IBC organization is now based.
Along with his efforts developing IBC, Wilson had a lengthy career in the broadcasting industry, serving as sales director at Link Electronics. After that company was acquired by Quantel, Wilson left to form Anna Valley Electronics, a projector rental company. Wilson also worked on behalf of EMI and Prowest.
“John Wilson was always the perfect gentleman who, in his own quiet way, worked extremely hard for the benefit of IBC and the broadcast industry in general,” said David McGregor, founder of TSL and a veteran of every single IBC. “His chairmanship transformed IBC into the well-drilled organization it is today.”

Based on the book by John Green, “The Fault in Our Stars” starring Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff, and others hit theaters last week. KRAKOW, Poland — For an open-air concert staged near the Sanctuary of John Paul II here to celebrate the canonization of Poland’s first pontiff, TSE Grupa supplied lighting and video gear. The rig included SGM fixtures — 45 SixPack blinders and 44 P-5 wash lights. Along with the late John Paul II (1920-2005), Pope Francis approved the canonization of the late Pope John XXIII (1881-1963) last July. Both canonizations were celebrated by a mass led by Pope Francis on April 27, 2014 in Vatican City’s St. Peter’s Square.

For the recent canonization of Pope John Paul II in Poland, TSE Grupa played a key role as one of the longest-serving lighting companies in the Polish market.
TSE Grupa supplied all lighting equipment and multimedia solutions, and carried out the installation at the Sanctuary of John Paul II near Cracow, while their own Adam Tyszka and Sebastian Pachciarek were responsible for designing, preparing and coordinating the light show for the great celebration concert.
For this major achievement 45 SixPack blinders and 44 P-5 wash lights were deployed. TSE Grupa has had the LED fixtures from SGM as part of their stock almost since product launch, and the company is more than satisfied with its investment, having used the fixtures in various applications.
Pachciarek commends the SGM fixtures for their low weight, low power consumption and quality of light output. “These are the most important parameters for a TV show, and the SGM products meet these demands. However, for this particular outdoor concert we also needed waterproof fixtures, and for that the SGM fixtures were the ideal choice”, he says.
Catholic pilgrims gathered to attend the open-air concert, recognizing the elevation of Pope John Paul II to saint, which was also broadcast by TVP1 (Polish national public broadcaster). This concert differed significantly from TSE Grupa’s usual projects, where the concert theme could be jazz or pop. “This project was designed to be ‘light and reverent’, I feel confident that we achieved this target”, Pachciarek informs – backed up by the groundswell of positive feedback the company received after the concert.
As a self-proclaimed LED supporter, Pachciarek was pleased to be working with the SGM fixtures and was especially impressed by the IP rating. With many upcoming projects in the pipeline offering further opportunities for use – including TV shows, festivals and corporate events – the versatility of the powerful, low profile units is underlined once more.

YORKTOWN, NY – John LaBriola, an LD, lighting director, production designer and programmer for a long list of artists and major tours, including Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers, died April 24, 2014. He had just turned 40 a month earlier.
LaBriola, who had been involved in lighting and production design since 1990, handled production design, lighting design and/or programming for tours supporting Patti LaBelle (1990s), Boys II Men (1998), Vanessa Williams (1999), Mary K. Blige (Love & Life and The Breakthrough; 2003-2004), Backstreet Boys (Never Gone; 2005-2006), The Jonas Brothers (2007-2010) and Demi Lovato (2009-2011).
Along with key roles lighting elaborate tours such as Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 (2010-2011) LaBriola took charge in quirkier treks including Charlie Sheen’s Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option (2011).
He has also lit Blink 182 and Angels & Airwaves since 2011 and served as lighting director for Chris Brown’s Fortune world tour (Oct. 2012-Jan. 2013) and as lighting director/programmer for How to Destroy Angels (March 2013-May 2013).
Most recently, along with Bruno Mars, the Halftime Show headliner for 2014’s Super Bowl in East Rutherford, NJ, LaBriola added French alt rockers Phoenix (2014) to his roster of lighting credits.
Survivors in LaBriola’s immediate family include his wife, Ellen; daughter, Sophie; sister, Joyce; mother, Flora DeFilippo; father and stepmother Pete and Cheryl LaBriola; mother-in-law Eleanor Bortone; and brothers-in-law John Gitto and Mark Scholz.
