The world will know, indeed!
Disney’s “Newsies,” which bowed on Broadway in 2012 and two Tony Awards along the way, is casting multi-talents for principal and ensemble roles to “carry the banner” in its West Coast premiere!
Children’s Musical Theater San Jose will present the tuner, based on the 1992 film of the same name. The team will hold by-appointment auditions for nonunion performers Aug. 1 and 8 in San Jose, California, where the show will run Dec. 1–10.
A male actor aged 16–30 is sought for the spry leading role of Jack, while a female actor aged 16–35 is needed to play the female lead, Katherine.
Additionally, casting is underway for male performers ages 16–35 who are highly skilled dancers to round out the team of Newsies, and male and female performers ages 18–70 are sought for ensemble tracks, as well. Finally, a male and female actor are needed for the supporting roles of Davey and Medda, respectively.
A stipend will be provided for those hired.
“Newsies” features a Tony-winning score by Alan Menken with lyrics by Jack Feldman. Harvey Fierstein penned the book, and Jeff Calhoun helmed the original production as director.
